Autumn in Wine Country is pure perfection. The weather is ideal for wine tasting, exploring or just hanging out—warm sunny afternoons, cool evenings and crisp mornings. Plus, the fall color palette decorates the countryside.

If you are looking to slow down, relax and enjoy the unbridled beauty of Mother Nature, now is the time for a visit to the Wine Road, Northern Sonoma County.

Autumn Wine Country Activities

With harvest wrapping up, the scent of fermenting juice continues to waft from wine cellars along the Wine Road. The pace isn’t quite so frenetic as winemakers slow down to 10-12 hour days instead of 16-18, so you might find one or two in a tasting room again.

Besides enjoying wine tasting and the gorgeous scenery along the byways, there are many other activities to occupy your time. Kayaking or canoeing down the Russian River, visiting a host of art galleries that feature the bounty from local artists, dining at one or more of the many excellent restaurants, strolling through a Farmer’s Market, or just hanging out at a cozy lodging to read a book on the porch or nap in the sun.

As we glide into the winter months, fall is the season of transition. It a time to readjust our body clock as the days get shorter and the fast pace of summer gives way to the back to school, work or whatever changes the fall may bring.

Stay Longer

If you’re able to take a break to slow down, relax and enjoy a long weekend or even a week, think about a visit to the Wine Road. Before you know it, the holiday season will be upon us, and then on to 2017!

Check out the Wine Road’s lodging options, and don’t forget to also book your stay if you’ll be coming during the holiday season. Also, check out the lodging specials page.

Path along the trees

With these thought of the splendor of autumn in Wine Country, I think I’ll grab a leash for my dog and take a stroll with my family so we too can enjoy the sights and smells along the Wine Road.

Happy Sipping!
