On the first of February, Make- A-Wish Greater Bay area hosted a benefit called Wine & Wishes where several Wine Road members joined the cause and poured wines for attendees. Wine Road donated tickets to attend all 3 annual events as well as a Volume 15 Cookbook from this past Food & Wine Affair.
What an excellent experience! In a large events center on Treasure Island, thousands of workers and volunteers set up the long hall to accommodate thousands of attendee’s appetites and wine enthusiasm. With an easy check- in and many people willing to help navigate and answer questions, this event proved to be well organized with educated staff. The food consisted of pork-belly sliders, fish tacos, and even smoked trout macaroons. The wine was plentiful with 7 of our members pouring some tasty wines: Fancis Ford Coppola, Valdez Family, De La Montanya, Papapietro, Merry Edwards, White Oak, and deLormier.
The dinner was phenomenal – 4 courses complete with a wine glass that was never empty! The highest live auction bid that I can remember went for $13,000. One lucky group of 4 bought Katy Perry’s donated auction item for $8,000: 4 VIP and backstage tickets to her concert with hotel accommodation included. The live auction was very exciting and livened up the whole room. At the end of the first round of auction items, the donation goal fell short $4,000 and when brought to the room’s attention another $10,000 was graciously donated in $1,000 increments from generous attendees!
Thank you again to Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area and all their volunteers for hosting such a wonderful event, thank you to all the attendees who supported the cause, and thank you to all the wineries and restaurants for donating your time and products to support the children of the Bay Area!
